Digital Generation – Questionnaire Sunday 15 July 07

What generation do you see you belong to and your friends? They consider themselves without a label however they prefer the title as digital native.
What do know about the digital culture? Myspace, music downloads, etc There digital culture and use is limited to specific applications and social networking locations, such as emails, IM, chat rooms, MSN or Myspace and interesting enough less face to face communication and preference to IM.
What technology do you see that is important? Place in the order of priority. What type of media do you favour? Prefer computer and internet, it’s considered as the same no differentiation between both. Priority one is computer, next internet, mobile for communication and photos to share with friends (always in my pocket), iPod for free downloads, XBOX360 & PSP for the latest gaming.
What web sites do you visit? Why? Limewire, MySpace, MSN, Youtube, other music video sites.
How do you communicate with your friends? Communicate mainly with mobile texts and MSN or MySpace IM.
What do you use the computer for? How much time do you spend on the computer, iPod, and other digital technology? Computer is used for casual surfing, specific websites, gather school information, communication and hobby or surfing. They do not use books, prefer to get their information from web and online library references within school portals (Joey’s & Monte). Gina is only on the computer for 30 minutes a day after school, prefers the iPod and 90 minutes on the weekend. Gina’s sports teams tend to communicate by email before the game.
What games do you play? Why? What is the interest? Dean prefers World of Warcraft (WOW) the coolest game on Earth via XBOX 360 and playing with Halo 3 a good shooting game. Gina prefers SIMS game for fun.
Any concerns about using the internet? or any other digital technology? Very little concerns about internet, other than the rubbish on net, SPAM. Dean finds it hard not to have web access, specially when the computer problem caused a major headache.
If you had $1000 to spend, what would you buy or save? Dean prefers an iPhone and Gina – clothes and new iPod for video clips.
What do you want? Dean wants laptop computer and the iPhone. Gina wants clothes, kayak, new hockey stick and mobile with cool features.
What technology would you use to learn? What preferences? Gina prefers iNoodle and the school new portal with blogging capabilities, more online sources and quick access to the library. Dean mentioned the Clickview smartboard Joey’s has at school. Gina prefers powerpoint instead of blackboard and copying notes. Nothing worse then copying notes on daily basis.

Where do you get your information about the world? Get most of there information about the world from the Internet.
Does this reflect how you would change or manage the world? What are your thoughts? Make it a better place to live.
You have the power to change systems, beliefs, structures, institutions, and government direction in the short term. Do you understand this? What changes will you implement? They do understand this question, however limited discussion occurred. They finally mentioned a better place to live, and equal social structure.
